Playing games at a bridal shower has become a staple of these events. There are so many to play, but an easy, timeless game would be the "How well do you know your significant other?" game. So how do you play? Well, it can be played in a variety of ways. The most important part of the game is making sure you have entertaining questions to ask of the bride and groom so everyone involved will really get into the game. To ensure you have a nice array of questions you can use to play, I have included 100 questions you can ask the bride about the groom. But before we get into those questions, let's learn the rules of the game and all the variations of the game. The basic premise of the game is simple. Pick the questions from below to ask the groom; these are questions about themselves. Then, you record the answers. These will be used as the "correct" answers. At the party, you will ask the bride these same questions. The Bride's responses are then compared to the answers given by the groom. She must give the correct responses about the groom in front of the guests. For every answer that doesn't match, the bride will be penalized in some way; this is where you can get creative. Here a few variations of the game you can use to play. Game Variation 1: How Well Do You Know Your Significant Other? One variation of the game involves using alcohol as the penalty. For every question missed, the bride has to take a shot. For every correct answer, the guests take a shot. A very important caveat to this is, make sure you serve very serve small shots of hard alcohol (as in about 1/4 of a shot) or lower-level alcoholic drinks such as beer or wine. You don't want everyone to be super drunk or worse, get sick; this will ruin your party (you've been warned). Using alcohol in moderation as the penalty can be a lot of fun. Game Variation 2: How Well Do You Know Your Significant Other? Another variation of the game is to bring some articles of clothing and accessories as the penalty. This will require some planning and resources. The sillier and over the top, the better; think big hats, gaudy jewelry, puffy blouses, old fashion undergarments, and so on. In this version, for every incorrect response, you dress the bride in a piece of attire. At the end of the game, the bride may be covered in this ridiculous-looking, over the top outfit, which is a great time to take a picture and send it to the groom. The party (and certainly the groom) will enjoy the hilarity of this. The outcome of wearing a giant hat, a bra outside of a dress, orange lipstick, and huge sunglasses will make for an amazing picture and a memory you will have for a long time. Game Variation 3: How Well Do You Know Your Significant Other? Another version of the game reveals embarrassing information about the bride when the incorrect response is given. The important caveat here is, do not be too harsh; do not give out any life-changing secrets, and do not humiliate the bride to be in front of friends and family. Make sure to ask the bride these questions beforehand, so you have them ready for the game. Ask a variety of questions that toe the line, but again, do not actually humiliate anyone beyond reproach. As an example, something appropriate would be, mentioning that the bride picked her nose until she was 11. Something inappropriate would be, the awful details of their first divorce. Game Variation 4: How Well Do You Know Your Significant Other? The final version of the game uses silly acts as punishment. The idea here is, for every inaccurate response, the bride has to perform acts that are funny but slightly embarrassing. An example would be something like, jumping rope in hugely oversized shoes. This is a great opportunity to get creative; the sillier the better. This variation requires a bit more planning and props, but if done well, the outcome can be hilarious. Also, make sure to break out those smartphones and video cameras, you're going to want to record these activities to send to the groom. Getting the Responses Before the Party Now that you are aware of a few varieties of the "How Well Do You Know Your Significant Other?" game, let's focus on getting your responses from the groom before the party. There are a number of ways to go about this. The simplest way is, send an email and ask for responses to the provided questions. Select your questions from the 100 below, copy the ones you feel would be most suitable, and then send them to the groom. Have him (or her) answer the questions and send them back. Make sure you follow up and get them before the party or else you don't really have much of a game. Another fun thing I have heard people do is, ask the questions in person, and video record their answers. This is a lot of fun, but it requires some digital assistance in the form of a TV or any large screen so the answers can be played for all the party to see. In other words, you must have access to a large screen and a way to play the responses for everyone to see. You can either play the answers between questions or play them at the end. This is a very fun way to reveal answers and definitely adds another layer of humor to the game. Being Mindful of Your Party Attendees and the Questions You Ask Before you get started, it is extremely important that you know your audience (the party attendees) and you are inclusive in your questions, that is to say, you are not offensive to anyone, you aren't too revealing, and you don't completely destroy anyone's credibility with anyone in the room. I have heard that this game can go downhill very quickly if you aren't considerate of the people around you. In other words, it might not be best to ask the bride what her favorite sex position is in front of the bride's 7-year-old niece, but if attendees are a group of like-minded sexually liberal adults, this may be perfectly fine.
